SJCBA Response to COVID-19

Dear Members:

The SJCBA’s first priority is the health and well-being of its staff, members, and other members of the community. Out of an abundance of caution, and recognizing that things are changing rapidly as the nation, state, county, and city respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SJCBA is taking the following steps:

1. All MCLE’s scheduled for the next 8 weeks are postponed to a future date, including the Unlawful Detainer MCLE schedule for March 19 and the Mediation Training scheduled for late April.

2. The CDC issues new recommendations that all events with 50 or more people be cancelled for the next eight (8) weeks. Accordingly, and with 100% support by the Law Day honoree, Judge Linda Loftus, the Law Day luncheon scheduled for April 30 is postponed.

3. The SJCBA offices will have limited hours until further notice. The office will be staffed from 8:30 until 2:00 PM. My mobile # is 209-423-6664.

4. Unless otherwise announced, all Section and Committee meetings will be held remotely via phone or video conference. For questions, please contact Committee or Section Chairs.

5. CAC, LRS,  and DRS services will continue to be provided as needed. We anticipate a slowdown in cases, referrals, and mediations due to voluntary or mandatory social isolation.

The SJCBA is staying in touch with the Superior Court, and will keep SJCBA Members updated as new information becomes available.

The ABA has a CLE on-demand at: https://www.americanbar.org/news/abanews/aba-news-archives/2020/03/aba-offers-cle-webinars-related-to-covid-19/

Let us try to stay focused on the tasks immediately before us and act on the most accurate and timely information possible. A quote I saw, reportedly from a school superindent said when announcing the closing of schools for the next few weeks, is worth keeping in mind: “In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be quite apparent if we under reacted and did too little.”

Please stay safe, take care of yourself and your loved ones.
