The Criminal Law and Unity Bar Sections present a Criminal Law MCLE: AB 3070 Objections to Peremptory Challenges taking place in two 1-hour sessions from 12:15pm - 1:15pm, on Monday, January 31, 2022, and Monday, February 7, 2022, via ZoomThis program qualifies for MCLE credit for up to two (2.0) hours of Elimination of Bias.  All attendees must be registered one day in advance and will automatically be registered for both sessions.

Zoom meeting information will be provided to you the morning of each session.

Program Description: An interactive discussion designed to give practitioners an understanding of the new procedures for objecting to peremptory challenges under A.B. No. 3070.  The program will include: an overview of the history leading up to Wheeler and Batson and the constitutional underpinnings; the differences and similarities between the A.B. 3070 and Batson/Wheeler analytic frameworks; a focus on making and responding to A.B. 3070 objections in the trial court, the trial court’s ruling and review of trial court rulings on appeal; a discussion about the influence of implicit bias in the selection of jurors; and practice tips for practitioners.
